Gone are the good old days when the USMC gear was categorically worse than anything the Army had. Now it's all professional and actually fit for use, like these used Therm-A-Rest sleeping mats. Disappointed, dear reader? So are we, so are we...
This is the right and proper closed cell foam accordion style sleeping pad called the Improved Sleeping Mat. (ISM) They probably had sandpaper before. In addition to being sturdy as hell, these are Coyote Brown in color unlike those neon horrors sold everywhere. At the other end, there's a pair of cemented elastic cords to keep your mat in a neat package when carried. They're also great for hanging the mat to dry or cross the Atlantic with it, or what the hell the Marines do anyway.
Genuine USMC surplus. Used but in good serviceable condition. Some of these might have the rubber bands that hold the folded pad together detached like in the pics. But they are still usable that way, too. A closed cell pad is difficult to destroy, so these will serve many a night before they're gone. Do expect some traces of use though, these are not new. Generally speaking American surplus is a good investment, being warproof gear made usually in the USA.
