A sturdy yet affordable US military self-inflating sleeping pad. Mil-spec stuff made for rough soldierly life. Use on its own or together with a foam pad. A carry bag is not included.
The official name of this US military thang is Pad: Sleeping, Self-inflating, and the model is Ultra Lite Long, Military. When you open the valve, the pad will start self-inflating, As usual, you need to huff and puff the last bits yourself.
This is a pretty heavy-duty military sleeping mat, which is best suited for folks who like sturdy gear. Despite the name, these are not ultra-lite in modern hiking standards. So, if you favor lighter weight and packability over durability, you should get one of those modern ultralight hiking pads. The measurements when rolled up for packing are c. 58 x 13 cm (23" x 5"). A more careful roller can even manage a smaller bundle. The weight varies to some extent, revolving around 800 grams (1.8 lbs). The storage bag isn’t included, but you can strap the rolled-up pad on top of your pack.
Even though this is called Long, it is not very long by modern standards. The measurements when full are c. 183 x 52 cm (72" x 20.5"). We measured the air-filled area, the seam allowance goes on top of that. Thickness when full is c. 3 cm (1.1")
The main material is 100% Nylon. Most of these come in the light green shown in the pics, but it is possible that there are some olive drab versions in the mix as well. At least some of these have been made by Therm-a-Rest, which is known for high-quality sleeping pads, but there can of course be some other manufacturers in the mix as well.
US military surplus. These have seen use, but they are still perfectly serviceable.
