Product description

Awesome tennis racket-style snoe shoes made famous by Donald D. and his nephews. Hard-wearing US military surplus made in Canada. We previously sold these in unissued condition, but now we’ve got used ones for a change. Already cheap snowshoes are now even cheaper! These are extremely well made from magnesium and steel and do not contain plastics or other materials of questionable integrity.

  • Length 116 cm (45 5/8")
  • Width 31 cm (12 1/8")
  • One size fits most
  • Weight around 2 kg (4,4 lbs) for pair, with bindings
  • These are made from light and sturdy magnesium, which means you can scrape some flakes off these if you're having trouble starting a fire (yes, this is a real thing)

More info

After the Second World War, the US armed forces ditched their old, wicker basket-like "Bear paw" snow shoes for these tennis racket ones made from magnesium. These were worn in the snowy Alaskan wilderness and even overseas by some troops participating in military exercises in Norway.

The bindings are made from heavy-duty Nylon or cotton straps with even more heavy-duty buckles. One-size-fits-all kinda deal; by moving the attachment points of the straps and tightening them, you can fit almost any kind and size of shoe in these.

Use

Snowshoes distribute weight over a large area, keeping the wearer from sinking thigh-deep with every step. They are a great replacement for skis in thick shrubbery and an excellent exercise method anywhere you have snow.

Condition

Used US military surplus. A great option for a snowshoe hunter with a budget. These are much cheaper than the unissued ones we’ve sold previously but still perfectly serviceable. The paint is chipped, and the straps have gone yellow, but none of this affects usability.
