US ECWCS Gen III Level 3 Fleece Jacket, Foliage Green, Surplus

This uses Polartec fleece which is a good, soft synthetic fabric made from polyester fibres that provides warmth without weight and is hydrophobic to an extent. There is mesh under the armpits for ventilation-- so far it doesn't stink. The reinforcements are made of some plastic, but doesn't seem ultra durable, so I wouldn't use this as an outside layer when I'm out working. This fleece also have a thick collar which seems to hold the warmth in, almost too well, and is a bit too restrictive when pulled up completely, but I don't know if it is different, in different sizes. The dimensions are quite wide and short at the arms and on the chest. Size Small regular fits perfectly for me. 182 cm/72 kg M. For the price, this jacket is good. Finding gear like this, almost brand new, with so many quirks and features is not something you stumble on very often. If you need a reliable fleece for cold weather, this would be a very fine choice.

A good fleece jacket for Summer: it's very light and packs down to a small size. I usually combine fleeces with gilets, wool shirts and thermal shorts as needed. This one is loose fitting enough to go over three or four layers. It's not as heavy duty as the older Gen- I Desert Storm Bear Jacket or the Gen II black polartec GWOT issue, so like the US Army, not as robust as it used to be....maybe this is the Gen III Emma-and-her-two-moms-era fleece jacket. ....but then certain Asiatic countries and non-state actors feel that the USA is an existential threat to them, so Emma and the culture and values she is defending are more badass than all those authoritarian regimes combined
