The US military M-1961 canteen with a green ALICE pouch. This is probably the most widespread military canteen in the world. It is very durable. comes in a handy size, and it's easy to find extra accessories, sometimes even from us.
We’ve sold the canteens and pouches separately, and now we got them together, ain’t that swell? This canteen is part of the US individual mess kit system. A metallic cup, which fits around the bottom of the canteen to save space in your pack, is not included. However, we sometimes have it, so check out our selection. The canteen cup gives the added benefit of being able to heat stuff up when needed, which is extremely useful when in the wild. The cup doesn’t come in this package, but we sometimes sell those, too. So, keep checking the website. Even with the cup, the canteen fits perfectly in the pouch.
These bottles are made with two different caps, both of which might be found in this batch. So you might get either one. The Type 2 cap in the pictures can be used together with the US gas masks in addition to regular drinking. Then, there is the regular Type 1 cap that doesn’t have a separate opening for the drinking tube. The cap is attached to the canteen, so it doesn’t fall off when open.
The ALICE-pattern canteen pouch is basically over 100 years old. it's based on the M-1910 canteen pouch. The biggest differences are the materials and the attachment system. The outer is made from nylon, and the lining is some sort of teddy bear fur. In hot climates, the pouch is drenched in water, and the lining soaks up quite a bit of it. As the water vaporizes, it keeps the contents cool for a longer time.
The pouch is open at the top, and snap fasteners secure the canteen in place. There is a water drainage grommet at the bottom. The pouch has a small pocket for water purification tablets.
There are two detachable metal keepers, also known as ALICE clips, on the back. The pouch fits any belt under 55 mm (2.2"), wide, and many military backpacks have loops for hanging these.
Used US military surplus. Some of these have seen more use and some less, but they are all perfectly serviceable. The canteen may have some small scratches and other signs of use, but nothing that makes it unusable. The cap comes off and stays securely on, and the water won't leak.
The color of the pouch may be faded or stained, and it can have some frayed seams. Nothing major, though. The color varies from olive drab to somewhat brighter green.
