The front of the platform features a 2x2 PALS webbing grid and elastic loops for attaching gear of your choice.
PICO Plate Carrier
This platform is specifically designed for use with TYR Tactical PICO plate carriers, which feature buckles at the bottom edge of the front plate pocket for attaching the lower abdomen platform straps. With the hanger piece, the platform can be attached to anything that has a loop-side panel for mounting.
Why was this flap invented?
A properly adjusted plate carrier’s ballistic plates protect the torso area from the top of the sternum to the level of the navel on most people – the back plate should be at the same height. This leaves the area below the navel exposed, and shrapnel injuries to this region can hinder a fighter’s effectiveness just as much, albeit more slowly and painfully. As a result, various add-ons for ballistic vests have been developed, and this platform is one example. Note: unless your torso is the size of a postage stamp, this type of platform attached to a plate carrier will not protect the groin area. You’ll need additional gear for that.
Condition
Made in the USA, this used surplus is likely from the discard pile of some NATO military force. These platforms have seen heavy use but, due to their high quality, are still in one piece. The elastic loops on the front may be worn, and some flaps may be missing cord locks seen in the photos.
