Female peasant fashion from our western neighbor. These authentic work pants come from the days of yore in the Swedish military. But they are still perfectly usable, they just have seen quite a bit of use already. In other words, these aren’t the pants you want for your great aunt’s centennial, but an awesome choice for renovation, garden work, dog walks, and all proper outdoorsy use where dress pants fear to tread.
If you’re used to silly modern pants, these may seem a bit exotic to you. They don’t have a fly at the front, instead the button closure is located at both sides. You can also tighten the waist using the same buttons. Additionally, there are buttons for tightening the pant cuffs. Furthermore, the pocket design can be somewhat perplexing. There are no back pockets at all, but the pants feature buttoned pockets at the front, the kind that you usually have on your bum. But don’t be prejudiced, we’re sure this fantabulous fashion will be in some day. And it is always good to be a trendsetter.
These old work pants will wipe the table with this whole "slimmy fit" ideology of today's fashion world. Hailing from the era when pants had proper width along the whole leg and waistline at the navel at minimum. So, you can actually move around in them and bend down without reenacting a plumber. They come in a toned down stone gray color that looks great in black & white photos. Made of thick, durable cotton and with belt loops that fit a max. 3.5 cm (1.4”) wide belt.
Female pant sizes à la Germany. We did measure these and put the measurements in the table below. The waistband size is the maximum size. You can shrink the waist with the buttons at both sides but you cannot make it any bigger unless you leave the pants unbuttoned. The leg inseam length doesn’t grow as the size increases. It just seems to vary from 74–76 cm 29”–30”), some were even a bit shorter, possibly due to shrinkage.
Size | Waistband | Front rise |
---|---|---|
40 | 74 cm (29.1”) | 35 cm (13.8”) |
42 | 78 cm (30.7”) | 36 cm (14.1”) |
44 | 82 cm (32.3”) | 37 cm (14.6”) |
45 | 84 cm (33.1”) | 38 cm (15”) |
50 | 90 cm (35.4”) | 39 cm 15.4”) |
Honestly used Swedish military surplus. These are decades old, so the color can be faded, the pants can have small stains, patches, and other signs of use. They are still perfectly usable for a long time because in the old days they made clothes with a very poor business model.
