Here’s something from a bit gentler side of army fashion than the age old green and gray. This is the M59 field shirt of the Swedish civil defense, and quite much like the old Finnish army field shirt, except it is brighter and better. These are in pretty nice condition, so they haven’t seen much defending.
In the Nordic countries, military clothing has been made in a fairly similar manner for a long time. The M59 shirt looks and feels fairly similar to the Finnish one but it has a lot better collar than ours.
There are a couple of buttons in the front and slits on the sides. The cuffs also feature a button each. The color is a soothing baby blue with some slight psych ward or engineer office vibes. The cut is quite roomy and comfortable. The shirt is made from durable cotton, so apart from looking quite nice, it also lasts and you can use it in more rough and tough conditions. If the color doesn’t suit you, you can always dye it to your liking.
Used Swedish civil defense surplus. However, these haven’t seen that much action. Clean and intact but you will need to do some ironing because these are somewhat wrinkly. Of course if you are looking for a proper work shirt, these are perfect as is. And as with surplus in general, there can be a lingering smell of surplus present.
