If there's one commercial instance that has the money for product improvement, that's the US Army. These are the latest ACU trousers made to military specification by Propper. If you want ACUs just as they are worn in the military, or if you're just after very good field trousers, this is your thing.
Propper has been clothing the US armed forces since Vietnam, and is currently the largest clothing supplier for the US DoD. This means that what they do, they do well. Qualitywise this is the exact same stuff that's issued by the US Army.
Along with the superior fit and cut, these are camouflaged with Multicam, which was shit hot stuff when it came out - and still is, especially in terms of effectiveness.
- Button fly with drawstring on the waist, belt loops accept pretty wide belts
- Two side pockets, two back pockets with button closure flaps
- Big bellowed cargo pockets with elastic drawstrings and button closure flaps. The access is forward tilted so you can use them in a sitting position. Boy do these pockets hold stuff!
- Smaller calf pockets with velcro closure
- Double fabric on arse and knees. The knees have small velcro openings so you can install internal knee pads. These can be cut out of an old foam camping mattress.
- Leg cuffs have drawstrings with front closure, more comfortable than the usual side closure.
- 50/50 NyCo ripstop fabric with NIR technology.
- Sewn to mil-spec FQ/PD 04-05A
This garment is made for real war usage and thus differs from almost all other superficially similar clothing on the civilian market. The reason for this is the material: 50% cotton, 50% nylon blend with Near Infrared Signature Management Technology. The latter prevents detection by NIR image converters and can be a matter of life and death in a war situation.
Sizes in the normal US Army system, please take time to check your size before ordering, as it's very easy to end up with rather huge pants!
