Need to keep your stuff dry when canoeing, crossing waterways, or surviving in the post-apocalyptic water world? Rain covers help with rain but when things get really wet, you will be much happier with a waterproof bag. This tough high-quality 40 L waterproof duffle bag is ideal for weekend trips or as an additional pack for extra gear. It protects your stuff from water and dirt and can be used as a regular bag or backpack. Our canoeing folks really like these.
This is the smallest of the Ortlieb duffle bags. It can be used as a regular bag or quickly converted into a backpack by using the padded handles as shoulder straps. Internal straps compress the volume, making it easier to close the zipper when the bag is full. The tough PS620C base fabric makes it an extremely durable expedition bag. The high-quality waterproof TIZIP zipper can be secured with a padlock (not included) through a wire loop at the zipper. Available in olive/black and black/black.
A waterproof backpack/duffle bag is designed for people who adventure in extremely wet conditions. These work in regular camping and hiking as well, but they are ideal for canoeing. Backpacks are a lot more comfortable to carry than a barrel during portaging. If you have a big pack on your pack, you can put a smaller one on the front. A nice bonus is that you can leave waterproof packs out in the open overnight without getting your gear wet. This saves a lot of space in your tent. If you have bears in the area, you might wanna hoist the bag up in the air though.
Ortlieb makes these in several sizes. This 40-liter version is at its best on weekend trips or shorter. Or as an extra bag for longer adventures. Even though these are extremely tough, you can poke holes in them with knives as such. So, don’t pack caltrops, spike mats, or other sharp implements inside.
