The NVA Field Stove is the East German version of the Esbit stove that was invented in the 30s, almost immediately adopted by the German army, and still in use today. This little contraption will take care of nearly any field cooking needs, just throw in some fuel tablets and let it burn. East German engineering at its best!
Just like the Esbit Kocher, this little gadget is basically an ingenious foldable field stove. Slide the lid halves outwards and lift them open, put in a few fuel tablets (not included), light 'em up, and watch your food get hot. If you just yank the lids up like an ogre, they will not budge.
The official Esbit fuel package also fits neatly inside this stove for easy storage. The quantity of tablets needed for different cooking needs varies greatly, and we can't really give and "hard data" on this matter. Everything depends on the overall temperature, winds, etc. The tablets do burn for a surprisingly long time.
If you are not into fuel tablets, the stove can also be used with any natural materials, like twigs and all that. Just pile them up and light it up. Alternatively, you can use one tablet and place the sticks on top of it. This way you should have a decent fire in no time. Remember to follow the local legislation when it comes to fires.
Weight c 80 g (2.8 oz).. Measurements when closed c. 90 x 62 x 13 mm (3.5” x 2.4 x 0.5”).
We get these every now and then. Some are very much used, some unissued, but all are in serviceable condition. C’mon, it is a piece of metal ffs, unless you drive a tank over it, it should be quite fine.
