How about a night vision scope that is the size of a cement mixer and displays the post-apocalyptic green blur that we all love? This Hungarian Gen 1 device attaches to the side rail of eastern bloc guns, such as AKs and Dragunov. The Polish version of this is NSP-3 and the Soviet one 1PN34 (NSPU), but the Soviet scope is a bit more advanced. This thing is bloody huge and ugly as fuck. In other words, magnificent.
Some of these work, some are paper weights - see condition categories below.
To be accurate, this particular model was designed for the Hungarian AMD-65 assault rifle but it also works with other guns that have a side rail. The scope comes with a steel transit case. Originally the box also included a canvas carrying pouch, a sturdy battery case, and a battery, as well as a spare part pouch with e.g. a spare lens and rubber eyepiece. However, since this is military surplus, these additional bits aren’t necessarily included, or only some are.
One thing is certain though, there isn’t a single battery in any of these. Probably because they were old and leaky. People have been known to craft working batteries from modern materials though. The internet is your friend in this one.
The gen 1 night vision devices came into use around the time of the Vietnam War. The image quality is utter crap if you are used to modern fancy la-di-da image intensifiers. Very blurry around the edges and only sharp in the middle. However, it will create that lovely post-nuclear holocaust Stalker world for you.
Note! Don’t ever use these in daytime conditions. And really don't stare at the sun with these. That can be very unhealthy.
The scope weighs 2,830 grams (6.24 lbs) and is 48 cm (18.9") long. So, this isn’t a cute little thing. With the box and all the weight is around 8 kg (17.6 lbs). The outer measurements of the box c. 50 x 20 x 15 cm (20" x 4" x 6").
These are used Hungarian military surplus, and their condition varies. The paint on the box can be chipped and the metal underneath rusted. The scope can also have some scratches and dents, which just adds to its charm. However, some seem to have seen very little use.
These devices have been checked and divided into categories:
These are so cool that you can hang them on the wall with a suitable gun. Because these are old, we cannot guarantee that they will work forever. But if a Category 1 device doesn’t work when you get them (after installing a working battery), please contact us and we’ll work from there.
