German sweaters. Probably the best model around, even including the classic British jumper.
Made of heavyish wool, with elbow reinforcements, epaulets, and often a small pocket on the breast. Not all the sweaters have the pocket. All sweaters have German flags on the sleeves.
This model has been in use since the Cold War, but it's so good (and warm) that it's still good today. To the best of our knowledge, the model is still in use by the Bundesmarine.

Awesome sweater. I have two -- the first is in vaguely rougher condition and clearly saw some use, but is still outstanding. That one did arrive with a strong, flowery scent that an initial, careful washing did not lessen. I didn't find it objectionable as much as surprising. Over time, however, with no additional cleaning, the scent has slowly dissipated and now is almost imperceptible. The second sweater arrived in pristine condition, looking as though it had barely ever been used, and without any perfume scent whatsoever.
Both sweaters are soft, non-itchy, and very warm. I would have to characterize these as the Cadillacs of surplus sweaters. Big, warm, and comfortable. Took just a few minutes to remove the German flags from the sleeves. If I were German I guess they might stay, but I'm not, so ... .
The fit is as described, a bit loose but with no issues with oversized fitment in the chest. My sweaters do have significant extra fabric under the shoulders, however. I thought it would be troublesome, but that hasn't proven to be the case.
As between these and their excellent British counterparts, these are a cut above.

Got an unused (looks unused at least) size 48. Nice snug fit on my 180/85 gym-rat-body. Sehr gut German quality perfect for moose hunting or just looking cozy bad ass in the office.
