Santa Claus came early, We got a tiny batch of awesome Bundeswehr Gore-Tex bivy bags. This professional quality costs craploads more when new, so snatch one fast before your neighbor buys them all.
This is the waterproof cover that goes on top of the sleeping bag to prevent external wet dreams. Absolutely essential for those who want to sleep on wet and muddy ground, either in an open shelter or under the starlit sky. You won’t need one in a tent unless it doesn’t have a floor, the floor is full of holes, or you have a bad hydrophobia. Furthermore, the cover protects your sleeping bag from damage and improves insulation to some extent.
Sturdy waterproof zipper closure and a velcro storm flap. This is very similar to the Carinthia Gore-Tex cover that we sell, but these seem to be made by Feuchter, which also supplies a lot of stuff to Bundeswehr. However, there might be other manufacturers too, even Carinthia in this batch.
Note! These don’t have a compression bag or any other carry bag but you can get one e.g. from us. We sell both new compression bags and surplus ones.
Made from tough tri-laminate Gore-Tex fabric: top layer 100% waterproofed polyamide, mid-layer PTFE (the membrane itself), bottom layer 100% polyamide. The fabric breathes but doesn’t let water in and is very windproof. One must say that the GTX never breathes as well as a sleeping bag on its own, so in warmer weather, you should have a thin sleeping bag or you will be very warm. But in a cold weather, it provides some additional warmth.
These are very big, so you’ll probably fit all sleeping bags inside these (one at a time). Even the foot end has quite a lot of space. You can also slide in an inflatable sleeping pad if it tapers down at the foot end. Measurements flat about 235 x 90 cm (7' 8.5" x 35.5"). The weight is c. 850 g (1.9 lbs) plus the weight of the compression bag if you get one of those. The dimensions when packed are c. 35 x 15 cm (14" x 6"). This does not even try to be one of those ultralight solutions, but rather a sturdy, reliable cover for demanding use.
Used German military surplus. There are at least covers from the 2000s in the mix but the batch can also feature some others. You won’t find super old stuff though because in the days of yore, you got the BW blanket and that’s it. These look very nicely used, but some might have been patched up. Since they are used, we cannot give you any absolute guarantees on the GTX membrane. This hasn’t affected our own gang’s hoard… shopping behavior at least. If you do manage to find a tiny hole, it is easy to fix with a patch kit like this. The price is so nice that it is well worth a small gamble!
