Very good waterproof shell mittens, perfect for quad bike and snowmobile riding and other wet and muddy fun and games. These have very long cuffs that can be adjusted at two points to keep the wind and rain outside. Unissued, many are still in plastic.
These mittens are part of the British Extreme Cold Weather (ECW) system. The official name is: Mittens, Outer, ECW, MTP. Don’t let the name trick you; these aren’t insulated winter mittens. They are unlined, waterproof shell mitts that are pulled on top of the warm gloves to protect them from water, slush, and mud. They will keep your hands dry and thus warm.
The design is the classic oven mitten, in other words, a pretty straight and loose tube. Excellent for Exogorth impersonation. However, you can make the fit relatively decent with the adjustment strap found at the wrist. Nevertheless, no matter how you adjust them, they aren’t fit for diffusing bombs, playing the banjo, or other fine-motoric stuff. Furthermore, there is an elastic drawcord at the cuff, that you can use to keep the wind, water, and snow outside.
These don’t have Gore-Tex logos, so the waterproof membrane is probably not the official GTX. However, it is made from exactly the same material.
The camouflage pattern is the British Multi-Terrain Pattern (MTP), which works in several environments akin to MultiCam.
Unused British military surplus. Many of these are still wrapped in plastic. However, they have been stored in piles, so they may be somewhat wrinkly.
