Product description

A sturdy, beautiful leather strap with a foldable "handle". Only the Belgians know the purpose for which these were used, and because the internet yieled no results, we assume it's something sinister and has something to do with the Congo.

In all honesty, do you often find yourself in a situation where your pack strap decides to disintegrate? Indeed! The solution is of course to make it out of thicker leather! We think these are meant for a very specific purpose due to their limited adjustability, unusual thickness and the presence of the foldable thingy in the center. What this purpose is - we have no idea. This also seems to work as a belt loop to keep the strap(s) on the belt when the content is removed. The bushcrafters of Varusteleka naturally hoarded a bunch of these for their blanket rolls and to use as headbands, obviously.

  • Total length about 68 cm, adjustable from 57 to 63 cm (you can punch in more holes too if you're crafty)
  • Width 2,4 cm
  • Thickness 3-4 mm
  • The length of the "handle" from rivet center to rivet center 36 cm
  • All of the above might vary a bit depending on the usage history of the item!

Weird Belgian surplus

Used, old, serviceable. The rivets and buckles might have blue oxidation common with brass and copper hardware. We suggest greasing the strap well when you get it, as the last time this has been done was some decades ago.
