Don't want to have your in-laws sleeping at the foot of your bed? Then get yourself some proper field cots as spares! This is a heavy-duty field cot, especially for those who need a longer bed or a really sturdy structure – like a mother-in-law or a Marine Corps gunny. The bed weighs over 7 kg / 16 lb, so it's not ideal for carrying in a backpack, but it's great for transport by vehicle or to keep as a spare bed at your cottage or home.
Real soldiers don’t lug field cots around in the woods, but then again, there are officers too. And sometimes, actual military bases are set up with large tents and field cots – so they do have a purpose in military settings as well.
This field cot is modeled after the U.S. Army design, though it's not exactly the same. The bed consists of a nylon fabric and an aluminum frame. When set up, the fabric is stretched between the end pieces and sides of the bed. Nothing insulates better against the cold rising from the ground than a foot of air, and insects and other small friends aren’t a problem either – especially if you pair the bed with a suitable mosquito net.
