This article series by Varusteleka is part of the global Fashion Revolution Week, the idea of which is to make the sourcing, manufacture, and sales of clothes more ethical and transparent. This is perfect for all the good guys, including us. That's why we were as happy as a pig in the mud to participate.
During this campaign week, we publish a seven-article series that introduces our partners and their fantastic gang that makes your clothes and accessories. In this second part, you will meet M.A.S.I Company from Keitele, Finland.
M.A.S.I Company Oy is one of the largest clothing companies in Finland. All the products are designed in Finland but most of them are made in Estonia, which is conveniently just across the Gulf of Finland. They are the biggest jeans manufacturer in Northern Europe. M.A.S.I Company makes all our Särmä and Särmä TST Jeans, Worker Pants and Worker Flat Caps. Our good collaboration began in 2015.
They take the environment into account in all their operations. Responsibility and sustainability guide all their actions. The company is also strictly against the use of child labor and requires that all their partners do so, too.
M.A.S.I Company also requires that their partners minimize their environmental impact. Environmental impacts are also taken into account when selecting the raw materials, chemicals, and methods. They only work with supplies that comply with the EU’s REACH regulation that addresses the production and use of chemical substances, and their potential impacts.
How long have you worked at M.A.S.I Company?
I started working here in 1975.
What do you do there?
My role in this company has changed along the ride when necessary. At the moment, I am in charge of the logistics. Customer service has always been near and dear to me, and it has always been an important part of my work.
How did you get into this business?
Sort of by accident. I originally came here for half a year before studies, but here I stayed.
How do you like your job?
I have to say that after all these years, I really love this field and my work. I have lived and worked through all the good years and challenges of the clothing business. My nature adapts well to both good times and the bad times. It has been great to see how the business has evolved despite the challenges. The people in this business that I work with play a very important role in people’s lives and know how to take into account all the requirements. Jeans have been a big part of me for 45 years.
