Varusteleka’s MultiCam collection is here – but how did it all come together, and why did we choose this path? Why isn't there any MultiCam Black?! The article below provides some answers!
Why and When MultiCam?
Varusteleka aims to reach international markets in addition to the domestic ones – MultiCam is probably the most widely used camouflage pattern globally, so we want to be part of that. Our tactical gear is designed to Tier-1 standards, making it suitable worldwide – from Arctic conditions to deserts and rainforests. Moreover, mastering MultiCam, one of the military gear standards, enhances credibility and brings business synergies.
Is This Some Kind of NATO Thing?
NATO didn’t originally influence our decision, but with Finland’s NATO membership, it doesn’t hurt to have MultiCam products in our range.
Development Timeline
We had considered MultiCam for years, but the first product plans came together in April-May 2023. Initially, we focused on the original MultiCam pattern due to its versatility. Other versions like Tropic, Arid, and Alpine weren’t prioritized, though they aren’t entirely ruled out for the future (except MultiCam Black).
Production and Collaboration
In 2023, we committed to launching MultiCam products by summer 2024, ensuring a full range of gear from head to toe. We reached out to manufacturers and coordinated production, sourcing materials from the US and developing custom materials for specific products in early 2024.
Why Is MultiCam More Expensive?
The rights to MultiCam fabrics are owned by a private company, meaning royalties increase fabric costs, leading to more expensive products. Some countries’ armed forces have developed similar patterns like the U.S. OCP and British MTP, which don’t require royalties.
What’s Next?
The MultiCam range is expanding. In 2024, we’ll release the L3 Wind Jacket, L3 Wind Anorak, L5 Thermal Anorak, and the L3 Softshell Jacket. In 2025, we’ll introduce L4 Field Pants, L4 Recon Smock, L6 Hardshell Jacket and Pants, and more pouches and carrying equipment. Stay tuned!
