The micro-organisms cannot pass through the 0.2-micron pores of the filter ceramic. Viruses are smaller than this, so it won’t filter those. If you suspect that these buggers are lurking in the water, use water purification tablets together with the filter. Unlike disposable filters, the ceramic can be cleaned several times - even in the field. The included measuring gauge indicates when the filter element should be changed.
