Measurements

Size info

The sizing runs very large as these are meant to be worn over normal clothing: the waistband is 12–13 cm (5") larger than the user's recommended waist size! If you intend to wear nothing but long johns under these, a smaller size can be the better choice.

These are made in various widths and lengths – just like jeans! The Austrian Bundesheer size in the brackets uses regular numbers for the width and Roman numerals for the length. Even in the case of pants, the width is based on chest size, as is common in Europe. The assumption is that a regular man will have a waist 12 cm (~5") smaller than his chest.

The size conversions and recommendations are based on our measuring work, customer feedback, and naturally wearing these ourselves. Don't get hung up on the numbers, though: surplus clothes often have variation.

Pay attention: the waist sizes below are recommended body measurements! The actual pants are larger for clearance.

Technical details and instructions

Machine-wash at 40 ºC (104 ºF) with a gentle cycle. Don't use softeners or brighteners.

Description

The perfect solution for good Scottish weather when it’s pouring rain or sleet sideways. They are meant to be worn on top of the regular pants but work on their own well enough. High quality yet affordable, what is this?

  • Unlined shell trousers to guard against the elements
  • Polyamide construction, with a Gore-Tex or Sympatex membrane
  • Generous cut: with only light clothing underneath, you can pick one size smaller than recommended

A simple and effective cut: zippered legs with velcro cuffs, elastic suspenders, and adjustment at the waist. These sometimes have a light liner fabric inside, sometimes not. The color varies from grayish olive drab to more brownish and greenish shades. The shell material is usually 100 % polyamide, and the waterproof membrane is always Gore-Tex or Sympatex.

Condition

Used Austrian military surplus but in perfectly serviceable condition. We cannot test every pair for complete waterproofness, but judging by the general appearance, these should be good.
