An improved version of the M05 e-tool pouch that Savotta designed and made for the Finnish Defence Forces. That old one was really good, this one is a bit better still! The 50 mm (2”) belt-compatible PALS attachment system and the virtually indestructible tuck tab closure mechanism are taken from the new line of Savotta magazine pouches.
The entire pouch is made from extra-wide webbing, which is far stronger than fabric. This is an important detail for a pouch made to carry something as abrasive as an E-tool. The open corners of the pouch allow for unrestricted drainage of sand, mud, water, and snow.
The rear features the standard Savotta PALS attachment webbing system with tuck tabs. The attachment straps can also be woven into belt loops for 45-50 mm (1.75”-2”) wide belts.
Tuck tab lid closure system
The lid on this pouch is closed with a polyethylene-reinforced tuck tab and hook-and-loop. A tuck tab is mechanically very simple, but extremely reliable compared to plastic buckles, press studs, or just hook-and-loop. This is indeed almost identical to how the attachment straps are locked into place on all Savotta PALS-attachable pouches, just shorter and with a grip tab for rapid opening.
The hook-and-loop allows the pouch to stay securely shut even when half empty, and to be quickly closed without tucking in the tab. The hook piece can be covered with a sewn-in piece of loop for silent operation.
Pro-tip: when first using a brand-new pouch, press the tuck tab with your fingers to give it a C-bend. This will make it far easier to use, as the claw-like shape is better at finding its way into the little webbing pocket that locks it. Don’t worry, polyethylene (in all its low-tech, boring glory) is very crush-resistant and will not crack or break; that’s why Savotta uses it.
