Measurements

The sizes are quite large, as they should be on an old-time sweater like this. The chart below shows the actual measurements of the garment. Note that since this is a knitted product, it stretches a lot. Thus, the selection process doesn’t have to be precision engineering.

If you want a slimmer fit, go one size smaller. Even two sizes smaller could probably work for a hipster-tight condom fit. However, this kind of traditional sweater isn’t in its element there. If the sleeves are too long, folding will take care of that very nicely. The neck is long enough for everyone but a giraffe.

The back length is measured in the middle, from the collar seam to the hem, and the sleeve length from the collar seam to the cuff end.

Technical details and instructions

Materials

Main material: 100% Finnish wool from Finnsheep, also known as Finnish landrace. This is a very old Finnish sheep breed. The shirt is coarse and really thick, and it has that lovely clean sheep smell.

Elbow and shoulder reinforcements: Italian Alcantara, 68% polyester, 32% polyurethane. This super durable material is used, for example, in the car and furniture industry.

The yarn is made in Finland by Pirtin Kehräämö. The knit is otherwise 1x1 rib, except on the cuffs and the collar 2 x 2. The sweaters are made in Finland by Top-Knit Oy.

Description

This is the traditional sweater that you want to take along into the wilderness. The shadows grow longer, the wolves howl in the distance, and the sweet smell of campfire smoke is bound to the very soul of the wool garment. It is good to venture beyond the Arctic Circle when this ruggedly handsome sweater shelters you from the frozen northern nature. Made in Finland from Finnsheep wool. The land that invented cold.

  • Thick and warm like a hug from a bear
  • High turtleneck collar
  • Tough elbow and shoulder reinforcements
  • 100% Finnish wool
  • Undyed natural brown color
  • Made in Finland

In short, this is a very warm old-time sweater, the type used by hunters, fishermen, and other outdoorspeople. That lovely thick and coarse wool that smells of lanolin, which you seldom see in the stores these days. There are no trendy colors or bright patterns, just undyed brown wool and functional cut. The shade may vary slightly, even in one shirt, creating a cool effect when you look at it up close and personal.

Use

This isn’t one of those civilized sweaters you wear to a hipster bar or your mother-in-law’s birthday party. This untamed garment is happiest far away from the civilization where you carve your own paths and on the stormy northern seas where the winds decide your fate. It is perfect for hunters, hikers, bushcrafters, and tall, dark rangers from the north. The cold and harsh land is a better place to be when your upper body is wrapped in proper Finnish wool.
