Here you’ll find neck gaiters, neck warmers, and scarves for the horrors of military and civilian life, and various wilderness activities. We have both tactical options and more traditional scarves and neck warmers.

Neck gaiter aka neck tube

A neck tube is not a new thing; they have been used since the major European wars of the previous century. However, they have since evolved into a seamless design, and there are lots of new materials, too. Our own neck gaiters are made from ightweight merino wool that have a very snug fit. A merino wool neck gaiter won’t fall down that easily. We also have thinner micro fleece buffs in camo patterns, if you just feel like disappearing. A camo neck gaiter is perfect for military use, hunting, and bird watching.

Square scarf

The square scarf is the most traditional of ‘em scarves. You can wear it in many ways: fold it triangular and wear on your neck, over your head like a pirate or a Vietnam War film hero, or wrap it over your face like a Wild West bank robber. Don’t rob a bank, though. There’s no money and you’ll end up doing hard time for a long time. These work in many ways: sun protection, dust protection, insect protection, camouflaging from enemies and animals, first aid, etc.

We have made our own version of the square scarf from merino wool without any patterns. This cream-of-the-crop scarf breathes and wicks moisture very well. It also dries quickly, and doesn’t feel like a clammy hand of death even when wet.
We also have the absolute classic of military scarves, the Shemagh, also known as keffiyeh. This scarf is most often connected to the desert climate, but since it also comes in green, it also works in forested environments.

Traditional neck warmer

The traditional neck warmer made from merino wool is a snug classic that warms both the neck and shoulders. This might be familiar to you from the toddler days. Kids of yore used to wear these when the temperature dropped, and the scarf required too much fine motorics. These are great for adults, too. Easy to carry, won’t unwrap from around your neck, won’t get caught on Stuka propellers, or get lost. It is also warmer than a neck tube.
Why merino wool?
Merino wool is an ultra fine fiber, so it doesn’t itch – erase that image of steel wire brush-like old-school wool from your mind, this isn’t it. Merino wool is warm even when wet, and it breathes very well. You don’t need to wash it very often – simply airing it out is usually enough. All our merino wool products are mulesing-free-certified and made in the EU, some even here in Finland.

Frequently asked questions about neck tubes and neck warmers

What’s the difference between a neck tube and a traditional neckwarmer? In English, the terminology is a bit hazy. A neck tube can also be called a buff, neck gaiter, face gaiter, neck buff, or neck sleeve. It is usually a seamless, elastic tube that you pull over your head to cover your neck and, if needed, parts of your face. A traditional neck warmer warms the shoulders in addition to your neck. Get a neck tube if you don’t need as much warmth, and get a neck warmer, if the weather is Finland-cold or you don’t have a turtleneck sweater or a coat with a high collar.

Does merino wool itch? Merino wool is so fine that it doesn’t itch, unlike traditional wool. It feels nice and soft on your skin and is an excellent base layer material, even for those with delicate skin. If faith doesn’t yet move mountains, try it first on your skin and find out.

Can you use a neck tube with a helmet? Yes, but a balaclava is usually better because it stays in place even in the roughest action. A merino neck gaiter is perfect in normal use, but you might need to adjust it occasionally if the going gets tough. Ninja hood-like balaclava stays where it should without adjustment needs. You can use both with military helmets, bicycle helmets, open motorcycle helmets, and even construction helmets, if needed.
