The primary purpose of light sticks is to generate completely safe light without any power source. The light is a result of a chemical reaction that produces only light and no heat. These disposable sticks require no batteries or external power. While the light may not be intensely bright, it is ideal for tasks like reading maps, rummaging through your backpack, or as a tent light. Light sticks are particularly useful for marking objects, locations, tent ropes, and such. Note that in military situations, light discipline should be taken into account, as these sticks glow quite brightly in the dark, especially when viewed through night vision devices.

By using tape, you can adjust the brightness of the stick and create various patterns if needed.

The stick is a 150 mm / 6" long plastic tube that is 15 mm / 0.6" thick, with a loop at one end for easy attachment. Activate the stick by bending it so that the internal ampoule breaks, then give it a shake. The outer casing of the stick is sturdy and not easily broken – at least not without proper tools, effort, and intent. The chemicals inside are non-toxic.

The light stick packages say these lights last for 12 hours, except the blue & IR ones that go on for 8 hours. If your stick is still glowing blue after 16 hours, contact your physician.
