Our take on British army trousers
The British army fields a pair of excellent camouflaged cargo trousers, which are imaginatively and purposefully named as "Windproof Trousers". We took them under a microscope and came up with our own model.
As the most obvious change we ditched the camo pattern, but we also changed the cut and added features to improve the functionality. These do look pretty nice in everyday use too, think of them as general-purpose cargo trousers from autumn to spring.
Features
We have used and sold the original Brit issue trousers a lot, so we knew what to improve. The waist is lowered (it was really high) to regular combat trouser height (still a bit high compared to most civilian pants) and the cut is not nearly as 'uuuge, but these are still loose-fitting and darted to retain unrestricted movement and allow layers to be worn underneath. Here's a simple list:
- Articulated knees for mobility
- Double crotch gusset that eliminates the inseam - no chafing
- Reinforced seat
- Darts in the front for room around the hip and crotch
- Adjustment tabs at the waist - can be adjusted 5 or 10 cm (2" or 4") slimmer, depending on if you tighten one or both.
- Drawcord cuff adjustment
- Reinforced stitching at critical spots: belt loops, pocket flaps etc.
- 5 cm / 2" belt loops, carabiner friendly at the sides
- Zippered mesh vents behind cargo pockets
- Regular slash front pockets (no flaps or scratchy velcro)
- Hidden zippered pocket in the left front pocket
- Slanted cargo pockets, mouth folds with flap to keep your stuff inside and unwanted shit outside
- Flat back pocket with a flap and button closure

Material and care
65/35 % polycotton, tightly woven but relatively thin. Some color may transfer from the product before the first wash. Wash at 40° C / 104° F. DWR coated for better water resistance, PU coated for windproofing. The whole package breathes still very well.
The Särmä Windproof fabric responds well to treatment with Särmä Fabric Wax or Woly Protector spray. A thorough impregnation with wax makes the garment waterproof. Apply as necessary!
