The poncho benefits are in its multifunctionality: it can be worn over both gear and backpacks and used to build small shelters or observation posts when needed.

A proper poncho is a very viable substitute for a waterproof jacket, especially so If you need to cut down your load weight or just want to carry less stuff. Great quality! I love mine and plan on using it as my shelter from time to time. Reason it did not receive all five stars from me is because of its DWR treatment. I understand it to be an effective water repellent, but I’m not sure it’s worth the cost of surrounding oneself with forever chemicals!
