Finnish conscription service lasts 165, 255, or 347 days, depending on training. Those trained for basic duties serve 165 days, while those in specialized roles or unarmed service serve 255 days. Officers, NCOs, and those in highly specialized roles serve 347 days. The non-military alternative, civilian service, currently lasts 347 days. So-called "total objectors" who refuse both military and civilian service get prison time.
Military service isn’t a punishment, and even the shortest term isn’t exactly a walk in the park. The Finnish Defence Forces train and build troops according to its needs, and everyone plays an important role, regardless of their tasks or service duration. Dreams of Peace at Lapinjärvi
