Measurements

The sizing system is American (so, big), and the fit is oversized to accommodate all your combat gear. If you want this jacket for civilian use, take at least one size smaller. If you don’t want thick midlayers underneath, you can even go down two sizes.

Below, you’ll find the outer measurements of the sizes that we managed to get. The chest width is measured from armpit to armpit, and the sleeve to the shoulder seam. The chest may sound ridiculously big, but it is measured from the outside. Thick insulation underneath that will reduce the internal dimensions quite a bit.

Technical details and instructions

Materials

  • Body: 100% Nylon Ripstop with DWR and Cordura reinforcement
  • Lining: 100% Nylon
  • Trim: 100% Polyester
  • Climashield APEX insulation: 100% polyester

Climashield stays dry when you don’t. Body moisture passes through the insulation, preventing a clammy feel. It is also lightweight and packable.

Care

Machine wash cold. Air dry. After repeated use and laundering, Climashield doesn’t go flat. Washing returns it to its original form while maintaining thermal efficiency.

  • Loop on the sleeves for patches
  • Made in the USA

These Cold Jackets were intended for US troops operating in very cold, mountainous regions and similar environments. The jacket is built with a tough DWR-coated nylon ripstop shell over Climashield® APEX Insulation. The APEX insulation keeps you warm, retains heat while wet, and dries much faster than natural down. The nylon ripstop shell repels rain and wind. The Cordura reinforcement in the seat and elbows provides protection against abrasion. The adjustable hood has a small cap, which is a nice surprise.

Axios Layering System

This jacket is part of Beyond’s earlier Axios layering system, where A7 is the Axios Layer 7, Static Insulation. The D at the end means Durable, which features a tougher, beefed-up outer-shell fabric and added reinforcements in high-wear areas, so the garment can withstand hard friction against rocky terrain or body armor without tearing. Later on, Beyond switched to an L-system, where this garment falls into the L7 slot, and is thus known as L7 Cold Jacket.

Condition

Unused American military surplus still in plastic wrapping. Before you turn on Caps Lock and type "why does surplus cost this much," note that this is unissued, and the current version costs over 700 bucks. So, it is a very expensive jacket made for the US military that has no shortage of money.
