The stainless version was designed to meet the needs of maritime users and others who work in conditions where it is impossible to keep the blade dry.

Whether stainless steel is the right choice for you depends on your needs and preferences. Stainless steel has better edge retention than carbon steel, enabling it to remain sharper for longer. The downside is that once it is no longer sharp enough for you, it takes a bit longer to sharpen it.

Stainless steel also requires less maintenance. However, contrary to what the name might suggest, it is entirely possible for stainless steel to rust if you neglect it entirely. So do take care of this knife as well!

Description

A small and handy stainless steel bare tang puukko knife for all DIY folks. Easy to carry, great for detailed tasks, sturdy as hell, keeps its edge longer than carbon steel, and won’t rust that easily in miserable conditions. Make a wicked cool handle from wood or wrap a simple Paracord handle. If you don’t need to battle fierce cave trolls, this functions as your primary knife. If you like ‘em bigger, take it as a backup blade.

History

It all began with the forging of longer stainless steel Jääkäripuukkos. We recently found out that, in the land of Finland, in the fires of Kauhava, Laurin Metalli also forged in secret, a bunch of small stainless steel knives. And some things that should not have been forgotten were lost. History became legend. Legend became myth. And for many a year, the knives passed out of all knowledge…

In short, we've just discovered that a bunch of these knives were made once upon a time and thought you might appreciate them. For now, it is a limited edition, but if they prove to be popular, they might stay in our selection.

Use

A bigger knife isn’t always better. Usually, a very small-bladed puukko is just the tool you need for most tasks in the wild. For heavier chores, you can then use an axe or a big Skrama. It is also wise to carry a spare knife in case you manage to lose the primary tool. This is also perfect for opening packages, peeling oranges, whittling this and that, and any other common tasks at home. And one of these could also be nice in the toolbox of your car.

DIY handle

This puukko has a very durable full-tang blade. The tang protrudes from the back, forming a small knob with a hole for lanyards and similar attachments. The tang is bare, so you can make the handle of your dreams or leave it as it is. Create the handle pieces from a suitable piece of wood or combine antlers with other beautiful materials. The bare tang has 8 mm (5/16") holes for attaching the handle pieces. If you cannot make a hard handle at home but would still like a DIY handle, the answer is Paracord.
