This micro-fleece-lined mid-layer is part of the British Personal Clothing System (PCS), which is the current combat uniform of the British Armed Forces. PCS was introduced in 2011 and gradually replaced the old CS95. This particular garment replaced the CS95 Fleece.
Features
Even though this garment suspiciously looks like an anorak, it is officially called the Smock Lightweight Thermal (PCS). Featurewise, it is very similar to the classic British-made Buffalo shirt.
The garment consists of a windproof and water-resistant shell made from durable polyamide (Nylon or other) and a lightweight yet warm thermal micro fleece lining. It has zipped sides and a zipped neck opening, which make it easier to don the garment, but they also help a bit with ventilation if needed. Furthermore, there are ventilation zippers in the armpits, allowing you to reduce heat when things get more strenuous.
The smock also features a collar with an integrated unlined hood. On the front, there is a fairly large zipped chest pocket that also serves as the garment's carry bag. Additionally, there are zipped hand-warming pockets with a fleece lining, or technically a single pocket with two openings. The cuffs and the hem can be adjusted with hook-and-loop.
The color is officially Light Olive, which could quite easily be called Coyote Brown, since the two colors sometimes overlap.
Use
This garment is suitable for year-round use, excluding the hot summer days. It is primarily intended for use as a midlayer thermal protection under the windproof smock in cold conditions. It can also function as a windproof and showerproof outer layer in temperate conditions or during very heavy exercise. So, it is called a smock that looks like an anorak and functions as a softshell. Clear as crystal!
Condition
Fairly recent British military surplus in very good condition. This system was introduced in 2011, so there aren’t any garments here that were made before then. These are clean and intact. Either they haven’t been used at all, or the usage is quite minimal. They are wrinkly, but that doesn’t affect the usage
