What was that about tacos and Kydex?
Kydex is a thermoplastic material widely used in tactical and technical applications. It is very durable and retains its shape well. It is also resistant to impact, scratches, heat, and other forms of damage, making it ideal for weapon holsters and other tactical gear.
Naturally, Kydex doesn't absorb moisture, and it's lightweight, so it doesn't significantly increase equipment weight. Minimizing loadout weight is often crucial in field conditions. Thermoplastics are also easy to clean and disinfect simply by washing, for example, if you have inserted a gore and crap-covered blade back into the sheath after some woodland activities.
The taco and pancake are two common types of Kydex sheaths. These two models differ a bit in design and usage. Our Kydex sheaths are folded in half and closed on one side, like a taco. In pancake sheaths, two separate parts are stacked and fastened on both sides, similar to our Boltaron sheaths. Pancake is wider, but it allows for a more secure attachment from both sides, while taco is narrower and enables different attachment methods. The choice between these two models depends on personal attachment needs and preferences.
