Skrama - as in Scramasax or Seax, a big single-edged knife popular in Iron Age Europe. Much like the Lapland Leuku, it serves many purposes. A cool name is always nice, and the best ones are those with some history behind them - our 21st-century Skrama would surely meet the demands of any Iron Age man from "ye good olde days".

Heart of Skrama is the blade

The Skrama blade is slightly curved with a sheepsfoot tip. The curve helps to rock the knife on a cutting board when cooking.

There are two versions of the Skrama. The older version features a secondary bevel, with the edge sharpened to two different angles: a 25° section near the grip for fine work and whittling, and a 34° angle along the rest of the blade for chopping. The newer version no longer has a secondary bevel. Instead, the edge is ground to a uniform 34° angle along the entire length. Going forward, only the new, uniformly ground version will be available.

When splitting firewood, you can beat the back of the blade with another piece of wood; the knife is designed to withstand this. However, don’t beat it with rocks or other things that are harder than wood. The full-tang blade ends in a lanyard loop. With the handle molded over, it's really not going to loosen or come off.

The hole in the blade serves production purposes - it is used when tempering the blades and later during other steps of manufacturing. Of course, you can come up with your own uses for it too, but most importantly, it is there for a purpose, not for decoration!

Jääkäripuukko 85

A very small and handy little puukko knife for home and wilderness. Easy to carry, great for all those detailed tasks, and sturdy as hell. If you don’t need to wrestle with abominable snowmen, this works perfectly as your primary knife. If you like ‘em bigger, take one of these as a spare one.

Made in Kauhava Finland, the region that has long traditions in puukko knife making.

Blade and handle

Just like our other Jääkäripuukkos, this knife has a drop point puukko-style blade profile, and the spine is ground and beveled to strike sparks from ferro rods. You will be thankful for this when your clothes and matches are wet, the sky is falling, and you need a warming fire.

Very tough full tang blade with textured overmolded rubber grip that isn’t slippery even when wet. The tang comes out of the back, forming a little knob with a hole for lanyards and such. Although the Jääkäripuukko 85 has a shorter handle than its siblings, it is still just the perfect fit for the human hand.

Double Sheath

This double sheath is compatible with the Skrama 200 and the Skrama 80 or Jääkäripuukko 85, the small sheaths are identical.

Features

• 60 mm (2.4") wide belt loop, fits just about any belt you can find, even those extra-wide military types.
• D-ring swiveled belt loop lets the knife turn on your belt keeping it from coming in the way.
• Snug fitting press-stud strap secured the knife properly in its place. When brand new the strap may seem "short", just pull on it a bit or wet it with warm water and it will soon get a perfect length and shape!
• A grommet for a leg tie at the tip.
• Drain hole at the bottom.

High-quality materials: the leather is 2 mm (0.08") thick vegetable tanned cowhide, strong and sturdy. All attachments are made with numerous strong studs.

Sustainable leather

The leather of Terävä sheaths comes from Pelo Leather, a family-owned Central Ostrobothnian tannery founded in 1897. In addition to producing top-quality sheath and Nappa leathers with a minimized waste of materials and emissions, they are respectful towards the source of the raw materials: the animals as well as the nature in which they live.

Pelo Leather uses elk and yak hides provided by hunters and nomads, and only cowhides that are a side-product of the milk and meat industries. The cowhides come from local abattoirs that have standards for ensuring the wellbeing of the animals. No animals are reared for the purpose of producing these leathers.

Their business quarter is 25 years instead of 3 months and a lot of effort is put into the processes and logistics of the business, to provide a cleaner environment for future generations. We tip our hats at them and are proud to have their leather in our sheaths!
