Varusteleka RK Open Top Magazine Pouch (Gen 2)

Finnish RK plastic magazines are bulkier than most other AK type mags and much fatter than any STANAGs, this means trouble when looking for suitable open-top mag pouches. Those worries are now in the past, this pouch is designed to fit a single RK plastic mag, modeled after the thoroughly proven conventional open-top design with a few tweaks.

As the Finnish RK is of Soviet descent so is its magazines, the typical front, and rear locking lugs can be a pain in the ass for open-top mag pouches. This is why ours is made from double-layered 1000D Cordura, the construction leaves the interior of the pouch totally clean off any folds or other features that might catch on to the locking lugs. The double-layered Cordura also theoretically doubles the lifespan of the pouch.

Also the fit of the pouch has been given some thought, these are not nearly as tight as most open-tops, not floppy either but just perfect not to have the sides press tightly against the locking lugs. In a tight pouch, the sharp angles of the lugs would quickly eat through even the strongest fabrics. The rubber cord that keeps the mag in place is really tough stuff, so even if the pouch is not condom-tight you don't need to worry about your mags falling out.

Naturally any 7,62x39 mm Kalashnikov magazine will fit nicely. Steel and bakelite mags may be a bit loose-fitting, but Bulgarian and Russian plastics fit just as nicely as the Finnish RK mags.

And of course the front of the pouch also has PALS webbing for attaching another pouch on top, a good feature especially when your vest platform is running out of space.

Drainage hole on the bottom, naturally. The construction is waterproof enough to keep water inside, and that we don't want to happen.

Made in the EU

The green and M05 woodland camo panels are manufactured in co-operation with Finn-Savotta Oy (Finland's leading military and outdoors gear manufacturer and the main load-bearing equipment contractor for the Finnish Defence forces). Depending on the situation production runs are sewn either in Savotta's Finnish or Estonian factory, sometimes even partially in Finland and partially in Estonia. The little printed tags tell where exactly each particular product was sewn. The M05 snow camo panels are made in the Czech Republic by Finnish CPE.
