The things you could achieve in cold weather if only your fingers weren't freezing or covered by NSFW mittens! Old tricks are better than bags of new ones, here's a modern muff for your hands to dive into. Perfect for tasks that can only be done with lightweight gloves or none at all.
The principle of a handwarmer muff is as simple as can be: an insulated tube where the hands and fingers work to warm each other and the external surface area is minimized to prevent heat loss. Just like mittens vs. gloves.
You can hang the Särmä TST Hand Warmer Muff to keep it available by various means: the ends have webbing loops for a simple hanging cord in case you're not wearing any combat gear. (The cord is supplied by the user.) The top of the muff has a 20 cm / 8" wide tab with hook-and-loops for sandwiching on a plate carrier like a hanger pouch. The tab is held against the muff with a loop surface when not in use.
You can increase the comfort and warmth with a chemical or electric warmer, just toss it in with your hands for active heating.
When not in use, the ends can be folded and secured with a Särmä TST LV141 adapter to create a package that keeps snow and small animals out. Just folding the ends into the tube does a lot to protect the inside. You can pack the muff into a Särmä TST General Purpose Pouch S if you're careful (the fit is a bit tight) or into a Särmä TST GPP Zip M more easily.
