What do the words merino wool clothing bring to your mind? Hopefully a warm feeling, because merino wool clothes are made of nature’s own miracle material, which keeps you warm even if there has been a little watery mishap along the way!

If the weather is forcing you to wear something more than just sunscreen, you should just go straight to merino wool. For example, our merino wool underwear items have non-chafing seams and a form fit, and our merino wool shirts have a long enough hem. For those concerned, these don't itch either, but rather form a second skin – or a fur. Who of us have not at some point of time wanted to be a hairy, hooved creature! Eventually you come to a realization that you really can’t be an animal, no matter what. Therefore you just have to settle for using merino wool clothing, but that’s life.

Merino wool clothes are actually good for any temperature. You can have merino wool underwear and a merino wool t-shirt when it’s hot – they are moisture-wicking, and they dry fast. They are also machine-washable, but washing is usually unnecessary – wool has self-cleaning properties. When not in use, air them out, and give them a good shake afterwards. You only need to wash the clothes if you see proper stains or they start to smell really bad. This usually requires lots of continuous use without airing – do not leave them in a wet lump after use! If you do wash them, reshape them gently while still damp.

When used and cared for correctly, wool is a long-lasting material. It does have certain requirements to maintain its properties and long service life. Read the dedicated article about washing and caring of wool clothes. We also have broader article on washing textiles.

All merino wool in products sold by Varusteleka is mulesing-free, and some of the products have a Nativa certification. Each pair of socks – at this point – has a QR-sticker on the packaging to allow you to take a look at the history of that particular item yourself. Probably not down to the name of the sheep, but you get the idea.
