Measurements

These are form-fitting, but the material is, of course, very stretchy. We added the recommended user measurements in the menu to make things easier for you. Go with those, and you will be fine. Since these are elastic, selection isn’t precision engineering.

Below, you'll find a bit wider set or recommended measurements, plus the sleeve length from the shoulder seam.

Technical details and instructions

Materials

  • Knit bits: 75% Merino wool, 22% polypropylene, 3% polyamide
  • Mesh bits: 100% Merino wool

Care

You don’t need to wash this shirt as regularly as modern technical underwear made from plastic. Airing it out is often enough.

If you do want to wash it, the procedure differs from our other Merino wool products because this garment combines regular fabric with mesh. So, follow the instructions below instead of using your own tricks or something you learned from your grandma.

  1. Wash at 30 degrees Celsius (86 F) using a very delicate program. It is recommended that you use a wool detergent, which you can buy, for example, from us.
  2. Reshape the garment gently immediately after washing. Stretch the sleeves and body both lengthwise and widthwise. This will ensure that it dries in its original shape.
  3. Hang to dry on a hanger after reshaping.

Further info

Mesh knit base layers made from polypropylene have been very popular among active outdoors people here in the north. We wanted to make a good thing great, so we added Merino wool, nature’s own technical fiber, to the equation.

The mesh design creates air pockets that warm in cold and cool in warm weather. Mesh also breathes very well when it is warm. Furthermore, merino wool and polypropylene are moisture-wicking, ensuring you won’t get cold that easily after a tough exercise. The need to change into a new shirt after the exercise also diminishes significantly.

The shirt has a round head opening and knit bits on the chest, upper back, cuffs, sides, and elbows to retain heat. and to make the shirt more comfortable. The hem is longer at the back; so you won’t look like a plumber, no matter how much you bend and crouch. The flat seams won’t chafe your skin raw, even when carrying a backpack or wearing a plate carrier.

Merino wool won’t start stinking easily, and it is also otherwise more pleasant than synthetics.

Designed and made here in Finland. Manufactured by Svala of Finland.

Perfect for active outdoor people

The mesh knit structure is ideal as a base layer when you move a lot. This shirt is made to meet the demanding needs of professional soldiers, but it is very well-suited for everybody who moves and/or sweats a lot. Active hikers, trail runners, mountain bikers, walk-and-stalk hunters, and preppers running away from fast zombies, here’s the undershirt for you.

For round-the-year use

The Merino wool undershirt is suitable for all weather conditions and can be worn throughout the year. It works as the solo base layer when regular Merino wool is too warm. It can also be combined with other layers in colder weather.

In summer, wear the mesh shirt underneath and a thin Merino wool shirt on top. In early fall and other cool weather, wear the mesh shirt underneath and a jacket on top. For colder weather, choose mid-layers depending on the temperature. For example, put our L1 Long Sleeve Shirt, L2 Turtleneck Shirt, or Henley Shirt on top of the mesh shirt.
