Moisture wicking underwear will give you the best performance and comfort when doing something active. Underclothing acts as a barrier between your skin and the outer clothing layers. Regardless of weather, undergarments should be light, breathable, and moisture wicking. When it is hot, use boxer shorts and T-shirts or sleeveless shirts. Logically, when it gets cold, put on long sleeved underwear. The most preferable materials for underclothing are synthetics and merino wool, or a blend of these two.
From Varusteleka you can select the right stuff for any purpose: Merino wool, synthetics, and even cotton. Sometimes the materials are a blend of these. We have hiking underwear, military underwear, and so on. Basically all good underwear can be used in any scenario. If you're not allergic to wool and have a buck to spare, we heartily recommend dressing up in merino wool; it regulates temperature, transfers moisture away from skin, doesn't even feel too bad when moist, and stays fresh for a long time compared to others thanks to the natural antibacterial properties, decreasing the need for washing. Just give it a proper airing, and you’re done.
We also have underwear for women. Women’s undergarments group has e.g. merino sports bras and merino boxers with a snug fit.
By default all merino clothing we sell is made of mulesing free wool.
Synthetic, or so called technical underwear is almost as good as merino wool, especially as moisture wicking underwear, but comes with a more wallet friendly price tag. It also tends to withstand use and abuse a bit better. You'll have to wash them more often though.
Yeah we know, "cotton kills". However cotton is usually very durable and might work well enough in everyday use. For high intensity activity it's not very good though, as it just soaks up moisture and feels like a wet rag. It even dries pretty slowly, damnit. Everybody has probably used cotton T-shirts and underwear, so it's no stranger to mankind. If you've never tried anything else, we suggest giving viscose and merino wool a chance!
