Description

Snowshoes distribute weight over a large area, keeping the wearer from sinking thigh deep with every step, a great replacement for skis in rough terrain. These are hard wearing US Army surplus, made in Canada. What's best, these are in totally unissued NOS condition!

After the Second World War the US armed forces switched their old, wicker basket-like "Bear paw" snow shoes for these newer magnesium, racquet type ones. These were worn in the snowy Alaskan wilderness and even overseas by some troops participating in military exercises in Norway. Made from magnesium, so if needed you can scrape some flakes off these if you're having trouble starting a fire (yes, this is a real thing). These are extremely well made of magnesium and steel and do not contain plastics or other materials of questionable integrity. Today these would cost at least a hundred bucks more.

The bindings are made of heavy duty Nylon or cotton straps with even more heavy duty buckles. One size fits all, by moving the attachment points of the straps and tightening them you can fit almost any kind and size of shoe in these. For reference on how to attach the straps have a look at the included instructions pampflet and our photos. Feel free to improvise if needed, the most important thing it that your feet stay on the shoe and don't wobble around too much.

Unissued military surplus

These came to us in sealed factory boxes, essentially a time capsule form the 80's! We just paired the shoes and the bindings.
