Description

The lightweight and water repellant sleeping bag of the US marine corps in a desert-friendly color scheme. An excellent summer sleeping bag and also suited for temperate three-season use. Comes without a carry bag.

Features

This USMC-issue coyote brown sleeping bag tapers down towards the foot end. Some of them have a one-way and others a two-way zipper. It has a very clever collar with a button closure that keeps the cold wind outside when you sleep in an open shelter or under the open sky. The shell fabric is durable 100% Nylon and the filling 100% polyester. No spark protection, so don’t sleep too close to the campfire.

Use

Officially this is a three-season sleeping bag but if you aren’t a tough jarhead or a Finnish outdoors enthusiast, we cannot recommend this for those Arctic late fall nights. These are meant to be used together with a bivy bag and the a sleeping pad, which improves insulation. We don't have the official USMC bivy but others also work. According to the instructions found on the sleeping bag, you are supposed to be able to sleep for six hours in this 3-piece system at -7 degrees Celsius (20 F), as long as you wear thermal underwear and fleece mid-layers, and at -12 degrees Celsius (10 F), when you wear extreme cold weather parka pants and booties inside. If you only wear boxer shorts, better stay above the water freezing point.

Condition

Used US military surplus. Clean and intact. Nobody has used these as body bags or for target practice. They might have some small signs of use but if that is unacceptable, buy a new bag. Those will cost quite a lot more though.
