80CrV2 carbon steel and heat treatment

This axe is made from the same 80CrV2 as our knives. The "thing" is that this is really nothing fancy or special, just very good tool steel that can take a beating and offers good edge retention. Over the decades, 80CrV2 has earned a reputation as solid and reliable steel, especially for our purposes.

The heat treatment we use leaves the steel's surface softer (approx. 52 HRC) than its interior (59 HRC). This functions a lot like fancy differential heat treatments, giving the blade added strength. The surface is very resistant to microscopic fractures or other blemishes, which results in virtually zero problems caused by material defects!

Carbon steel care

If your axe gets wet in the bush, dry it the best you can. Never store it without drying and oiling the visible metal bits.

Description

A lightweight and low-profile camping axe with a black leather sheath. The tougher-than-tough full-tang construction means that the handle will not snap, no matter how hard things kiss your axe. Fits nicely in your pack but can also be carried on the belt. Made in Finland.

Indestructible full-tang blade

This axe is made for rough business. The blade profile is more of a tactical tomahawk than a traditional axe. Very slim. lightweight and easy to carry. The full-tang construction means there is steel from the head to the tip of the hilt. The blade has undergone controlled-atmosphere heat treatment, which leaves a rough, brownish hue, suited for a tool designed for use rather than show.

One-and-a-half-handed rubber grip

This axe has the same weatherproof "one-and-a-half-handed" handle as our Skrama 240. The back end provides a good, solid grip and more power for tough chopping. The upper third of the grip is shaped to give you a better feel for detailed work.

Black leather sheath

The hatchet comes with a slim black leather sheath that has a snap-fastener closure. On the back side, you’ll find a bit elevated belt loops for a 50 mm (2”) belt. Such a compact and slim axe is very handy to carry on the belt.
