Measurements

The sizing is based on the user's waist circumference with an elastic waist for a comfortable fit. Sized to be worn over base and mid-layers - under the outer camouflage or shell layers. If you want to use the L3 Loft Pants as on top of your fieldwear, we recommend choosing one larger size.

Because of the nature of the garment, it doesn't really matter too much whether the legs are a bit too long or short.

High-quality materials

Outer fabric: 100 % Polyamide ripstop, 70 g/m2, 70D, nonfluorinated waterrepellent finish.

Previous version outer fabric: Ultralight 40D Ripstop-Polyamide, 40 g/m2 (1.18 oz), 100 % PA. Very lightweight, quick-drying, and really strong for such a lightweight material.

All visible fabrics are unofficially NIR-compliant according to our tests.

Insulation: Climashield Apex 67g/m2, 100 % PES. This is some of the best insulation there is, fantastic weight-to-insulation ratio, and great performance even in wet conditions. Apex is a continuous fiber filament. This means it does not need any attaching stitching as you would find on common polyester or down loft garments. By eliminating these stitches, we also eliminate possible cold spots, further adding to the insulating properties of the garment.

Lining: 100 % PES

We have a new manufacturer, and we put in some new features for this Gen 2: 2-way side zippers, lower waist on the front, looser elastic cuffs on pant legs. The hook and loop panels on the crotch have been reversed. The outer material is also heavier and more sturdy.

The L3 is primarily designed for wear as an insulating layer under your field pants but they can also be worn over your regular clothing as a quick means for extra warmth when pausing for a break in cold weather. Thus the simple design, very low profile, and no pockets at all. The construction and insulating properties are comparable to a modern lightweight summer sleeping bag.

The full-length side zippers offer fast and easy layering when you need it, without having to remove boots or even your field pants. Just pull down your pants to your ankles, put the L3 Loft Pants (with size zippers completely opened) in place and zip both legs shut from top to bottom. Now just pull up your field pants and you´re done! The new version has 2-way zippers.

L3 - Insulation layer

The third layer of the Varusteleka clothing system, designed to be worn over a base layer of merino wool and under a field uniform or other outer shell. L3 garments come in two styles, unlined windwear and lofty thermal wear with Climashield insulation. Lightweight, quick-drying, and highly breathable fabrics guarantee effective moisture management and great packability.
