Measurements

Size information

Manufactured in true UK sizes. The last is fairly regular, not narrow nor wide. The boots have clearance for double socks.

The conversions from UK to EU are made about half a size up; for example, UK 8.5 is actually EU 42 but labeled 42.5 by Alpina. This makes about 3 mm of a difference (1/8") but the boots have proper toe clearance - long story short, you can safely choose the boots in either size system.

The US-size? Simple: UK-size +1, e.g. UK 8.5 is US 9.5. Note! The labels on the boots and box indicate only a half-size difference between UK and US sizes. That's not how shoe sizes work, pay no attention to that. The difference between UK and US shoe sizes is one full size.

Technical details and instructions

Care instructions

We recommend that you read our shoe and bootcare article. The boots work best when cleaned with a brush and treated with a spray to repel dirt and water. Stubborn dirt can be removed with hand soap or similar mild detergent. Use GTX compatible shoe polish to keep the leather nice and supple.

Should the leather get wet cold water will be right next to your feet behind a thin membrane. When walking, pressure can force moisture through the membrane. For best performance against water, we recommend any stuff that is suitable for membranes. The surface will be shinier and darker, but most importantly your feet will be absolutely dry even when striding through deep puddles.

When hiking, rotate socks (or even insoles) to dry ones every time you take a break. Your feet will thank you.

Description

A modern hiking boot

Years ago we'd sell German surplus Gebirgsjäger boots, which were popular but the sole was too stiff for regular hiking use. These boots show a strong heritage of European hiking boot tradition, the looks are subdued, but the features and ergonomics are up-to-date.

  • Outer material 2 mm thick nubuck leather
  • Quick lacing at the bottom, lace locks at the instep and hooks to secure the shaft
  • Shock absorbing, non-slip rubber sole
  • Midsole: Injected PU
  • Sole attachment: molded, not glued
  • Waterproof and breathable Alpitex membrane
  • Good factory insoles

In other words, excellent hiking boots for temperate climates where the conditions are predominantly quite wet or at least uncertain more often than not. Just add socks and they work in winter too. If you tread through heather or snow, use gaiters.

Manufactured by Alpina
