Product description

Frontline is the flagship hammock of DD Hammocks. With this it doesn't really matter where you go, the hammock has clever little features that make it suitable for just about any weather or climate. No wonder many soldiers of the British armed forces love these!

  • Double fabric "pocket" for sleeping mat
  • Insect net included
  • Comes with a roomy stuff sack
  • Webbing ropes at the ends
  • Only weighs at 1,17 kg

For suspension we recommend DD's own suspension kit consisting of:

Features

Double fabric - you can slip a sleeping mat inside for insulation from the cold.

Very fine insect net, no known bloodsucker will go through the tiny holes. Comes with poles to keep it further away from the sleeper, but these are optional. If the net is not needed, the hammock can just be flipped over so the net remains on the bottom. However, the net can be kept open too, and pitching it is just a matter of tying two ropes.

A few pockets for valuables you don't want to leave lying around the ground.

Comes with 2 meter long webbing ropes attached, these can either be tied directly around the tree trunk or used to make loops for an adjustable attachment system in combination with climbing carabiners and a length of Paracord to make the round-the-tree loop slings.

Waterproof packsack. Designed for field use, not for factory packaging, which means there's room to just stuff the hammock in.

The Good: Overall, an excellent hammock. I am 6'4" and ~175 lb. I had no issues with laying comfortably in this, it is long enough and quite wide. If I lay diagonally I can lay in any normal sleeping position without much issue. I had no issues with soreness or stiffness in the mornings from being stuck in a banana shape all night. The material is of better quality than my last hammock, and I got 4 years out of that one, so I suspect this will last even longer. I generally use my hammock 4-5 times a year, for 2-7 days at a time on camping trips, in most weather conditions. As far as ease of use, this hammock scores high. Mine came with the mosquito net already attached, ready to go, which is ideal because my default method of setting up my hammocks is in the middle of the night while drunk off my ass. The straps for hanging are long enough that you have a lot of flexibility on where to put it, even if the trees are a fair distance apart. The hammock itself is free to slide on the straps, it's not gathered to a single point at each end, so the wider the tree/bumper/fence post you tie it to, the wider and more stable the hammock will be. If you have enough things to tie it to, you could probably set it up more like a cot. The bag the hammock comes in is big enough that it doesn't matter how you fold the hammock, or even if you fold it. Much nicer than some of the other bags, which can be like stuffing a sausage with a chopstick. The Bad: The elastic strings that come with it for holding the mosquito net up are not good imo. I ended up using a piece of paracord with a couple little carabiners tied to the same trees the hammock was on. The elastic refused to stay tied. The entire unit may be a bit bulky if you are a serious hiker/backpacker. The hammock in its bag is about the size of a gallon jug, but could be packed down smaller if necessary due to the ease of packing as stated above. I generally camp out of my truck or make shorter backpacking trips, so this isn't really a problem. Also, the bag isn't attached to the hammock, so you have to make sure you attach it somehow or put it where it won't fuck off into the next state. Overall, after three days of use, I (unprofessionally) rate this 9.1/10. An excellent option for someone who wants a quality hammock without the price tag of the "serious" hiking and backpacking brands. Update 12/14/19 Hammock is holding up well so far, only complaint at this time is that the pockets to hold stuff are placed so that either your head or your feet are laying on them. This ranges from uncomfortable (wallet, keys) to concerning (glasses). This is only an issue due to height and I would still buy this hammock.

This was the first hammock i bought, since then i went through a lot of them. It has a double layer, which does a good job at keeping the wind from cooling your back. The bug net is excellent as well, keeps all those little critters out. I lost one of the poles in the first week i had the hammock, great that you can just take a stick to tension the net. Mine came with the webbing strings, which are great. Switched them out for the whoopie slings, and never want to go back. The pockets inside are easly accessible, however, if you have some heavier items like a phone in it, it may hang in your face. Had some problems with the hammock though, i slept in it about 2 weeks at a time for 2 years. When using the Finnish sleeping mat inside the double layer, it will slide away from under your body. The velcro will let loose. Maybe i am a restless sleeper, who knows, but i do not have the issue of sliding in a single layer. I never managed to get a diagonal lay in it. I weigh 75kg, and i always get a banana lay, and of course back pain.
