The cup is designed to be stored together with the canteen, taking up virtually no extra space at all. The style has remained pretty much the same since WWI, although during material shortages these have been made from aluminum. As a nice feature, the heat conductivity of stainless steel is far lower compared to aluminum. This fits about 0.6 liters of mac and cheese and weighs about 210 grams (7.4 oz) when empty.
