Sizing

Truth be told, measuring this floppetyflap sucked ass because it wibbled and wobbled all over the place. When the lid is on, the outer measurements are about 80 x 60 x 40 cm (31.5" x 23.6" x 15.8"), but they can vary depending on what you shove inside. If it is longer than this, it must also be narrower, and so on. It is sewn to be rectangular when full, but thanks to the drawcord, you can also fit other shapes inside, too. Because of the weird top flap design, the bag is a lot higher if you don’t put the lid on. The weight when empty c. 3 kg (6.6 lbs).

Features

The paper on the side says that these are called VAKU Vz.65. So, simply BAG Vz.65. The paper also includes the maintenance instructions in Czech. The ones we checked seem to be made from PVC/polyester, but there can be other lovely clammy vinyl-like material combos. In any case, waterproof "rubberized" stuff. The ends feature sturdy carry handles made from the same material.

There is a drawcord closure (well drawrope) at the upper edge, and a weird lid flops on top of everything and is fastened with craploads of canvas straps and D rings. Technically, you can also padlock the D rings shut if you want. However, someone who wants to nick your stuff will get in with a knife through the walls.

Condition

Used Czechoslovakian and/or Czech military surplus in very good condition. Some might be unissued. These kinds of bags have been used since the psychedelic ‘60s, but they have most likely seen action even after the Communist regime fell. Who knows, they might still be in use.
