Bushcraft means practical handicraft skills combined with wilderness survival skills and living outdoors. Many Varusteleka folks are really into bushcraft, and it is no surprise that we also sell a good selection of stuff for bushcrafters.

Varusteleka has a plethora of bushcraft clothes, tarps, bushcraft knives and other tools, and other bushcraft gear. Bushcrafters indeed form one of our major customer groups. We also have lots of DIY stuff. And military surplus is also great for customization or rebuilding into something else. It is fun to use clothes and gear that you have made yourself or modified to suit you better. It is also good for the environment to recycle the old rather than keep buying things that fall apart instantly.

Good ol’ times

Bushcraft goes hand in hand with history and historical reenactment. Very often bushcrafters tend to look like old-time frontier people with their simple clothing and blanket rolls, all usually made from natural materials. This is understandable because why try to invent the wilderness skills when our ancestors already did it and a lot better than we ever could. Sadly many historical skills are dying or are already dead. Therefore it is very nice that some want to revive them. Some combine this with homesteading and trying to be self-sufficient, even living off the grid.

Natural born preppers

Many a bushcrafter is also a prepper/survivalist. Prepping doesn’t have to mean that you sit in your bunker waiting for the zombie apocalypse. Most preppers want to be prepared when something unexpected and unwanted happens. This could be a long power outage when you need to be able to survive without electricity. Or it could be getting lost in the banjo-playing backwoods with limited supplies. Woodcraft and interest in survivalism give you the skills to do just that and more. Building a fire without matches, building a shelter from scratch, hunting and fishing with limited resources, making your own tools and utensils such as spoons, and so on.
