CHOOSING THE RIGHT RUCKSACK

Rucksacks can have large size differences, and it can be hard for inexperienced hikers to choose which size matches the trip you’re planning. The size often defines a pack's purpose of use. Get a small rucksack for shorter trips, a medium rucksack for intermediate trips, and a large one for longer ones. Sure, what equipment you need and how much depends on the individual but it’s easy to make some kind of scheme:

BUSHCRAFT RUCKSACKS

Many of our best rucksacks are perfect for bushcrafting. The military surplus rucksack is especially popular as bushcraft rucksacks since it combines what outdoorsmen and soldiers value alike: rugged and practical design combined with durability for eons. The best bushcraft rucksack depends on the user's preferences. You don’t have to get a used bushcraft pack, because we also sell new bushcraft packs.

Affordable rucksacks?

If you want a durable yet affordable rucksack, military surplus is the way to go. The army rucksack is the best rucksack for rucking but it also works for any other function. However, one thing that it usually isn’t is a lightweight rucksack. You don’t have to ask: “How much does a rucksack weigh?” We list the weight in the product description.

Unfortunately, the glorious WW2 rucksack days are over. We sometimes still might get ‘em, but not in huge quantities and never at those super cheap prices. The Vietnam rucksack days are also pretty much gone. But for the lovers of the more modern military rucksack, there is still lovely stuff available. The more modern U.S. Army rucksack and the USMC rucksack from the older Alice frame rucksack to the more modern variations are e.g. great options even for civilian users.

If you get a surplus rucksack, it is usually used. However, don’t be alarmed because we spend quite a lot of time describing the condition of each army rucksack in the text and pictures. So you know what you’re buying
