When you buy a tent you usually get all the necessary tent pegs, poles, and ropes. However, with a tarp or a shelter half you often get nothing but the piece of cloth. Even if you do, you should carry some extra tent accessories with you because something will always get broken or lost. It will piss you off a lot less in the middle of nowhere.

Tent stakes and tent poles

A handy bushcrafter can whittle tent stakes from pretty much anything. However, you shouldn’t whittle anything in somebody else’s forest without permission. Besides a modern tent stake beats a wooden peg in everything but primitive camping and vampire slaying - both of which are worth preserving though. An aluminum stake is ultralight, durable, and easy to pack. Keep enough of these babies with you. You’ll thank yourself later when you need to fasten the tarp again after a storm.

We also sometimes have military surplus tent poles. It shouldn’t come as a surprise that these are used for setting up army tents. The small ones. A smart person will come up with other cool uses for these. Maybe.

Carabiners

Carabiner, karabiner, carabiner clip, snap ring… a dear child has many names. These handy gadgets are used in all sorts of rope activities from climbing to camping. They are not that pretty in Japanese rope bondage though, but they are perfect for setting up a hammock or a tarp. Make sure you select the right type. The heavy-duty carabiners designed for climbing are perfect for hammocks, too. However, the small carabiners are only suited for keychains, setting up tarps, or hanging lightweight stuff from your backpack. Please read the product description carefully before clicking any of these in your basket. We would hate to lose you. Literally.

Hammock accessories

Hammock camping is more fun than a clown on fire. It is even more fun to set up the hammock with proper hammock slings and straps. If you have bought a hammock whose attachment system is not that nice, check out our offering. You might not need to replace the whole hammock. Before going out, you should also take a suitably sized tarp with you to protect your beauty sleep from rain. And of course the right sleeping bag for the weather.
